Wardrobes have a way of getting out of hand. Every season, you add the latest trends, and your cupboards have begun overflowing. You can declutter your wardrobe by:
Using Marie Kondo’s Philosophy
Marie Kondo is famously brutal about what she throws away. She suggests you go through each item in your wardrobe, and if it doesn’t spark joy, it has to go. If that sounds too extreme, consider throwing away anything you haven’t worn in six months.
Use dividers and hang an over-the-door vertical shoe rack on your replacement wardrobe doors.
Find a Place For Everything
If every garment in your wardrobe has its own place, your closet will become far easier to organise into baskets, boxes, and piles. Some garments will never stay neat, so buy some organisers to attach to your replacement wardrobe doors. Hang your dresses and coats in garment groups with the shortest items on the left. This will make it easier to work through during your morning rush.
Pack For a New Season
Your wardrobe probably isn’t big enough to neatly store your full annual wardrobe, so when the seasons change, pack away the items you won’t be wearing until next year. While you’re deciding what to throw away, check for clothing with stains, holes, or broken zips. Decide what’s worth saving and donate the rest.
It’s difficult to throw away garments you have a sentimental attachment to, so consider cutting swatches from them to keep in a scrapbook with your photographs and other keepsakes. It might make it easier to throw them away.
